Bethune Smith

Faith and Activity Co-ordinator

Bethune is working on our GOGA project exploring the potential of faith based organisations to reach the most inactive disabled and non-disabled people in Wolverhampton, funded by Activity Alliance (via Spirit of 2012, Sport England and London Marathon Charitable Trust).

Bethune has considerable community-based experience having worked previously as the Health and Wellbeing Officer at Aspiring Futures, developing programmes for ‘Empowering Women’, teaching ESOL and delivering Zumba classes to less active communities.

Over the last 2 years, Active Black Country, through its Communities theme has invested considerable capacity in developing relationships with faith based organisations, holding the inaugural ‘Black Country Faith and Sport Forum’ in summer 2019 and convening a series of Inter Faith networks to maintain the momentum.

This GOGA project is critical to now drive this work forward and develop workable learnings that enable us to energise and activate faith groups and their facilities.
