Celebrating Heath Town 50 at International Fun Day

Heath Town Estate will be celebrating its 50th anniversary at an International Fun Day in the City of Wolverhampton on Saturday, July 20.

A host of activities for the whole family are on offer at the free event at Heath Town Park (WV10 0LY), between 12pm and 4pm.

The Mayor of Wolverhampton, Councillor Claire Darke, will open the fun day, which is being hosted by Heathfield Park Community Action Network in partnership with City of Wolverhampton Council, Wolverhampton Homes and other local groups.

There will be dancing, music, children’s activities, junior football, and foods from across the globe, as the cultural diversity of Heath Town and surrounding areas is celebrated.

A display of photos will showcase Heath Town past and present, while visitors will be able to vote for the winners of our school competition, where pupils at three local schools were asked to draw how they see Heath Town in another 50 years’ time.

Councillor Peter Bilson, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for City Assets and Housing, said: “The 100-year anniversary of council housing in Britain this year gives us cause to celebrate our work in the City of Wolverhampton.

“Heath Town has double cause for celebration in the year that marks 50 years since the estate was officially opened by Princess Margaret in 1969.

“We do not often get the chance to celebrate all the different cultures which have made Heath Town and its surrounding areas so diverse. This is a great way to bring the community together and, just as importantly, have some fun."

Shaun Aldis, Chief Executive for Wolverhampton Homes, said: “I would like to thank residents who have joined us at events across the city this summer to help celebrate 100 years of council housing in Britain.

“We hope you will join us in keeping the celebrations going at Heath Town International Fun Day and to mark Heath Town’s 50th anniversary. Heath Town is home to one of our most diverse and long-standing communities, testament to the community spirit that unites us. We couldn’t let this momentous milestone pass us by without a special celebration. We look forward to seeing you there.”
