Active Black Country Director

circa £55k (dependent upon experience)

Closing date: 19 January 2018

Salary: circa £55k (dependent upon experience) with attractive pension and benefits.  Full Time, Permanent Contract based in Dudley.

Active Black Country is the Government and Sport England recognised County Sports Partnership (CSP) for the Black Country region providing the strategic leadership for sport and physical activity across the areas of Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton.

Having successfully secured primary funding for 2018-2021, we now want to appoint a permanent Director to lead the implementation of our newly revised role and strategic direction.

Our challenge is large-scale: tackling inactivity and low participation among under-represented groups in a region whose residents’ lives are determined by a unique set of characteristics, setting it apart from other areas in England. With two boroughs classed as the most deprived areas of the country, and over half of residents living in the top twenty percent of areas of deprivation, the health of people across the Black Country is largely negatively driven by socio-economic status.

We recognise that to respond to the challenges set out within our ‘Towards an Active Black Country’ framework we need a collective approach, realised through shared agendas, to create change at all levels and across many sectors. To do this we need to build a committed organisation and team who can influence, inspire and enable others to achieve our vision of "We aim to make it easier for individuals and communities to be physically active. To be safe, secure, healthy and passionate about Sport”.

Reporting to the Chair of the Board, the Director will be the driving force of our ambitions assuming accountability for the creation, development and implementation of our ways of working, performance culture, strategic framework and business operations. You will need to identify with our core values and demonstrate visionary leadership, along with a strong ability to connect and engage with our diverse range of partners and stakeholders to steer the achievement of our common purpose.

We have strong aspirations and operate to the highest standards of governance and performance with a passionate belief that ‘sport has the power to changes lives’.
